The Research Scholar Grant (RSG) supports investigator-initiated projects across the cancer research continuum. Who's Eligible: Independent investigators in the first 6 years of an independent research career or faculty appointment are eligible to apply. Eligibility is extended for 8 years for clinician scientists who remain active in clinical care. Applicants typically must be within 12 years of receiving a terminal (doctorate) degree and cannot have more than one R01/R01-like grant (>$100,000/year direct costs for more than 3 years) as principal investigator at the time of application.

Benefits For the RSG award in the Cancer Control and Prevention Research Program with a focus on health equity, the maximum award is for 4 years at up to $165,000 per year (direct costs), plus 20% allowable indirect costs. Additionally, large multilevel studies that address cancer health equity may propose up to a maximum of 5 years and $200,000 per year (direct costs), plus 20% allowable indirect costs.
